CLEARING THE AIR FROM CONFUSION OVER

Urine-Off and Urine Gone

A Consumer Education Guide on the History of What Works

Urine-Off was introduced to the mass market in 2003. The success and efficacy of the product was not only that it was finally something that actually worked on eliminating urine (see why Urine-Off works), but also in that it was taken to market with a name that revealed exactly what it did. We feel that one of the greatest compliments for our product is that other companies thought so highly of it, that they have tried to imitate it. The most recent incarnation of such a product is called Urine Gone - packaged in an eerily similar black bottle, sold with an oddly similar-shaped black light, and marketed with quizzically similar language and illustrative animations. The extent of the imitation, however, has gone so far that we are forced to produce this clarification so as to help the consumer better understand the market.

Can You Spot the Imposter?

Urine-Off has been sold by thousands of veterinarians, groomers, dog and cat trainers, as well as professional flooring stores since April of 2003. Additionally, in the summer of 2004, the product began airing on the Home Shopping Network (HSN) television channel and quickly became one of HSNs top selling pet products. Sold with a Urine-Finder black light that is used to identify the location of urine-stains that are then treated with Urine-Off, odors as well as visible stains are removed. We have been consistent in all of our marketing and consumer education campaigns that the UV black light is a tool to inspect and identify hidden urine. Urine-Off makes no claims that it will make urine disappear under UV black light, but stands by a steadfast guarantee to remove all urine odor and visible stains.

The competing product, UrineGone, as seen on TV, now airs two-minute TV commercials where they visibly and verbally give the viewer the impression that the product makes urine disappear on contact under UV black light, no matter what the surface may be. After conducting more than two and a half years of research and development on both Urine-Off and our Urine-Finder UV Black Light, we can say with certainty that there is no product on the market that can remove the fluorescence of older, dried urine on soft surfaces such as carpet or upholstery, where the uric acid of urine has actually burned fibers and likely made the evidence of the damage in the fluorescing irreversible.

As a manufacturer, this type of blatant misrepresentation of a product is eventually ruinous for that product, but also for other products in its category. The particular copycat nature of the Urine Gone product has not only created consumer confusion, it has also induced a number of phone and email complaints. Resting on our solid foundation in the research and development of Urine-Off, we are confident in our products abilities and the Urine-Off guarantee. We are equally disturbed by erroneous competitor claims positioned in dead-on replicas of the Urine-Off product demonstration on the Home Shopping Network.

Can You Find the Black Light that Works?

The Urine-Off black light is on the left and the UrineGone black light on the right. Each black light has newly installed Energizer batteries and both are turned on. The power of each light is visibly demonstrated here. The bulb strength of the Urine-Off light is clearly much greater, allowing for quick and easy identification of hidden urine without getting on your knees to do so.

Additionally, it is important to warn consumers of Urine Gones false claim that urine instantly disappears from soft surfaces upon application. Frequently, dried urine will permanently burn the fibers of the carpet or fabric, making it nearly impossible to fulfill the claims laid by Urine Gone.

Can You Identify the Copycat Animation?

Urine-Off is sold on three continents and is currently used to clean the worst smelling streets and alleys of the City of Westminster in the heart of London. As a proven product, Urine-Off has brought relief to thousands of consumers since its launch over two years ago. The imposter definitely is clear. Urine Gone has attempted to copy Urine-Off in just about every way possible except in the quality of the product and commitment to the customer!

We think it is critical to alert consumers and dealers to beware of false claims and unrealistic expectations associated with imposter products such as UrineGone. After three years on the market, with over half a million bottles sold to satisfied customers, Urine-Off has a proven record to produce results. We guarantee it!
